That Quick - Así de rápido - 218

That Quick

A lover looks at creekwater
and wants to be that quick to fall,
to kneel all the way down in full prostration.

A lover wants to die of his love
like a man with dropsy who knows
that water will kill him, but he cannot deny his thirst.

A lover loves death,
which is God's way of helping us evolve
from mineral to vegetable to animal,
each onward form incorporating the others.

The animal becomes Adam,
and the next stage will take us beyond
what we can imagine into the mystery
of We are all returning.

Do not fear death.
Spill your jug into the river.
Your attributes will disappear,
but the essence moves on.

Your shame and fear are like felt layers
covering coldness. Throw them off
and rush naked into the joy of death.

a vegetal, a animal,

Tiralas y corre desnudo
hacia la alegría de la muerte.
Commentary:  We live in a world constructed of neural impulses that simulate the outside world. Assumptions are necessary for the simulation to work, and the base assumption is that of the ego - that we exist as a separate entity with a history and projected future. This assumption puts us in a prison of separation from all others (love) and dead to the moment as we obsess about the past and future with shame and fear. Freedom from this prison is death of the ego. Silence is the knife for this Hari-kari.

The Fish Way - La manera de los peces - 217

The Fish Way

The ocean way is the fish way
of the watersouls of fish who die becoming the sea.
Fish do not wait patiently for water.

In this world full of shape,
there you are with no form.

You have made a universe
from a drop of my blood.

Now I am confused.
I cannot tell world from drop.
My mouth and this wine glass are one lip.

I am Nobody, the fool shepherd.
Where is my flock? What shepherd?

When I talk of you, there are no words.
Where could I put you, who will not fit
in the secret world, or in this one?

All I know of spirit is this love.
Do not call me a believer.
Infidel is better.

Has hecho un universo
de una gota de mi sangre.

Ahora estoy confundido,

Commentary: I walked through a Lowe’s store today with purpose: get these bags of cement and that wood. As I did I watched many others collecting materials for their plans and dreams. Trump, Kim Jong Un, and Elon Musk also have plans and desires. There is a crying out in my soul for emptiness as I watch forms driven by desire.

Put This Design in Your Carpet (2) - Pon este diseño en tu alfombra - 216

Put This Design in Your Carpet (2)

Any movement or sound is a profession of faith,
as the millstone grinding is explaining
how it believes in the river.
No metaphor can explain this,
but I cannot stop pointing to the beauty.

Every moment and place says,
Put this design in your carpet.

I want to be in such a passionate adoration that my tent gets pitched against the sky.

Let the beloved come
and sit like a guard dog
in front of the tent.

When the ocean surges,
don't let me just hear it.
Let it splash inside my chest.

Commentary:  In relationship to the Friend male and female are in the position of the feminine with the Friend/Source of form acting on us. We are lost if we are looking to form for salvation. The saint only looks to the Friend.

Put This Design in Your Carpet (1) - Pon este diseño en tu alfombra - 215

Dragon Fruit - Pitaya
Put This Design in Your Carpet (1)

Spiritual experience is a modest woman
who looks lovingly at only one man.

It is a great river where ducks
live happily, and crows drown.

The visible bowl of form contains food
that is both nourishing and a source of heartburn.

There is an unseen presence we honor
that gives the gifts.

You are water.
We are the millstone.
You are the wind.
We are dust blown up into shapes.
You are spirit.
We're the opening and closing of our hands.
You are the clarity.
We are this language that tries to say it.
You are joy.
We are all the different kinds of laughing.

Commentary:  While riding my bike down the hill every atom in my body responds to every atom in the earth, with the atoms losing a little bit of mass as the atoms in my body move closer to the atoms of the earth; mass converted to kinetic energy that is converted to heat by my brakes.  I can’t grasp the intricacy of it all. A tiny flower blooming in a field and again I am bewildered.

We Three - Nosotros Tres - 214

We Three

My love wanders the rooms, melodious,
flute notes, plucked wires,
full of a wine the magi drank
on the way to Bethlehem.

We are three. The moon comes
from its quiet corner, puts a pitcher
of water down in the center.
The circle of surface flames.

One of us kneels to kiss the threshold-dust.

One drinks with wine-flames playing over his face.

One watches the gathering
and says to any cold onlookers,

This dance is the joy of existence.
Nosotros Tres
Mi amor deambula por los cuartos,
notas de flauta melodiosas,
cables arrancados,
camino a Belén.
Somos tres.

Commentary:  It can be delightful to think about mystical union, but what if it is the ego that is thinking this? The ego sorts reality into categories and has pride for material and spiritual possessions.  Noticing that we are seeing reality through the eyes of ego we can stop, look at the sky, breath consciously and accept any rough handling that is occurring in our lives with trust.

Entering the Shell - Entrando a la concha - 213

Entering the Shell

Love is alive,
and someone borne along by it is more alive than lions roaring or men in their fierce courage.

Bandits ambush others on the road.
They get wealth, but they stay in one place.

Lovers keep moving, never the same,
not for a second.

What makes others grieve, they enjoy.
When they look angry, do not believe their faces. It is like spring lightning, a joke before the rain.

They chew thorns thoughtfully,
along with pasture grass.
Gazelle and lioness have dinner.

Love is invisible, except here, in us.
Sometimes I praise love. Sometimes love praises me.

Love, a little shell somewhere
on the ocean floor, opens its mouth.

You and I and we, those imaginary beings,
enter the shell as a single drop of water.

Commentary: When I don’t feel the love but the rough handling is that handling love?
