Childsplay - Juego de Niños - 68

Childsplay There is no one with intelligence in our town except that man over there playing with the children. He has keen, fiery insight and vast dignity like the night sky, but he conceals it in childsplay.

Juego de Niños No hay nadie con inteligencia en nuestro pueblo excepto aquel hombre que juega con los niños. Tiene una percepción radiante y entusiasta, y dignidad tan vasta como el cielo de noche, pero la esconde en juegos de niños.

Commentary:  The Garden of Eden myth tells the story of mankind’s development of the trait that most distinguishes us from other animals, the development of identity in ego, the development of a theory of mind.

This is also the story of a journey most humans make between 3 and 4 years of age. We are kicked out of the garden by the realization that we are all alone in the universe; no one can feel just what we are feeling. Abraham Maslow described human’s highest development as ego transcendence. As Rumi implies here a very small percentage of humans make it back into the garden.

Comentario: El mito del Jardín del Edén cuenta la historia del desarrollo en los humanos de esa característica que nos distingue de otros animales, la identidad del ego, el desarrollo de una teoría de la mente.

Esta es también la historia del trayecto que la mayoría de los humanos pasan entre los 3 y 4 años de edad. Dejamos el Jardín del Edén cuando nos damos cuenta que estamos solos en el universo; nadie más puede sentir lo que estoy sintiendo. Abraham Maslow definió la trascendencia del ego como la culminación del desarrollo humano. Rumi implica en este poema que tan solo un pequeño porcentaje de los seres humanos regresan al Jardín del Edén.
